{Café} La Penderie

One of the great things about Paris is that there is an incredible amount of cafés to choose from. By café I don’t mean only a place where you can drink coffee, but a place where you can have a drink, eat and mingle until the wee hours of the morning.

A friend invited me La Penderie for an afterwork drink that turned out to be more of a dinner ! It is located in the center of Paris, just outside the Metro Etienne Marcel (line 4).

First impression : Great location, cute and original ! It is called La Penderie (translates into wardrobe) because there are lots of clothing shops and showrooms in the area. There is a nice terrace, but mostly for smokers. There is no need to make a reservation if you are arriving early. I ended up having a fishburger and my friend a Ceasar’s salad. The burger was a little bit on the expensive side (15 euros!), but it was a decent one. I forgot to take a picture of it because I was starving (mea culpa). The music was really good : not too loud, which was perfect because I hate when one cannot hear what the other person is saying ! The check came with little candies called Tagada from Haribo, nice touch !

The ugly part : either there were lots of smokers or the terrace’s disposition is horrible because it smelled like cigarette all the time. If you hate it, then it might be quite a letdown if you plan to spend more than one hour in there. I read many reviews talking about the cigarette smell so I’m sure I’m not the only one bothered by it.

I’ll give it 3.5 stars out of 5.

What are the biggest bar letdowns for you ? Comment below !

x Andy
